Deerfield Volunteer Fire Company is always welcoming 16 to 18-year-olds from the Town of Deerfield to join as “restricted members.” This program gives young men and women a chance to explore the volunteer fire service. Although they can’t work as interior firefighters and their roles are limited, they can begin state fire and EMS training early, preparing them to become full members at 18. The program has been a huge success, with nearly all participants becoming full members, and some even rising to officer positions in the department.
